Hi and welcome to this project. So, go on Howard, tell us what you've got in mind? Earlier this year I went to Shrewbury Folk Festival and heard some songs from the "Darwin Song Project". You will find more information
about that at the bottom of the page. Over the next few beer-fuelled nights, I ended up wondering if a similar project would work in Oakengates. We have been hosting the Crown Open Mic nights for a while
and have had quite a few people singing their own songs. Andrew, Ivor, Russ and Julian spring to mind, mentioned here not just to get them to join in, but to demonstrate the talent
that has been showcased at our nights.
So, what am I looking for? I'd like to hear from anyone who has skills in any of the following:-
Singing
Playing an instrument
Writing lyrics or poetry
Listening
The History of the area
or would simply just like to get involved
The aim of the project is to write a number of songs about Oakengates. To achieve that, anyone from the group can call upon other members and form any collaborations that
they feel will help. When we have come up with a few songs, we could have a premier at an Open Mic Night. And how about recording a CD?
The area of Oakengates is steeped in history. There are a few links at the bottom of the page to fire your imagination and get you started
Let me know what you think and please email me if you would like to get involved. If there is enough interest, I'll arrange a meeting later in the year
